Maxine Griffin Somerville
Maxine serves as Audubon’s Chief people and Culture Officer. In this role Maxine focuses on attracting, developing, and retaining talent, and promoting an engaged, diverse, and inclusive, performance-driven organization to create a culture workplace excellence.
Prior to joining Audubon in 2022, Maxine served as the vice president of global human resources for EngenderHealth, a global health women’s organization. She led the administration and coordination of all HR functions across EngenderHealth and developed the global HR vision, mission, and strategy for 12 country offices across Africa, Asia, and the U.S. She guided and managed the overall provision of HR services, policies, and programs for all EngenderHealth country offices worldwide and directly supported employees in the U.S. office. She has also worked in several nonprofit mission driven organizations over the course of her career including National Abortion Federation, Urban Institute, United Nations Foundation, Center for Policy Alternatives, League of Women Voters, Brookings Institution, and the Office of Personnel Management.
Maxine holds a Master of Public Administration from The George Washington University, a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Old Dominion University, and professional HR certifications from the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) and the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM).
