Lane Nothman

As Program Director for Boreal Conservation, Lane focuses on managing and expanding Audubon’s Boreal Conservation program in Canada. Her work includes coordinating and managing collaborative projects that support Indigenous-led conservation efforts, as well as building on existing relationships with Indigenous governments, organizations, and communities, and with partner NGOs. 

Previously, Lane served for over 10 years as the Managing Director of the Boreal Songbird Initiative (BSI). She led a team of employees and consultants to collaboratively develop and implement multi-pronged science and communications strategies to increase conservation across the boreal forest.  In this role, she also worked to increase public awareness of the importance of Canada’s boreal forest to birds, wildlife, and the global environment. In addition, she coordinated BSI’s efforts with other partners in a complex coalition that spanned international borders, geographic regions, and Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups.

Lane’s other experience includes over 10 years as an environmental management consultant, where she specialized in helping state and local environmental agencies improve the design and implementation of their environmental management programs. She also served as the lobbyist and program manager for the Washington Public Interest Research Group, where she held primary responsibility for formulating program strategy and advocating for issues before legislative bodies, the media, and the public. She holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Washington.

When not working, Lane can be found walking her dog, bird watching, hiking, cross-country skiing, or enjoying a cup of tea.
