
Javiera Ferreyra
Javiera Ferreyra is the Chile Country Director for Audubon, where she leads projects and implements the organization’s strategies in Chile. She plays a key role in integrating coastal bird conservation into national agendas, overseeing the National Bird Conservation Strategy, and fostering sustainable livelihoods.
Javiera has been instrumental in promoting birdwatching tourism and incorporating bird conservation into broader environmental and economic policies. She has also led the national implementation of hemispheric initiatives such as the Americas Flyways Initiative (AFI) and Conserva Aves.
Additionally, she has established strong partnerships with organizations such as the Chilean Ministry of the Environment, other governmental agencies, local NGOs, and research centers to strengthen bird conservation efforts, promote sustainable development, and enhance climate resilience.
Before joining Audubon in 2020, Javiera worked at the Chilean Ministry of the Environment, where she supported policymaking for national protected areas and the National Biodiversity Strategy. As an independent consultant, she helped organize the Fourth International Marine Protected Areas Congress in 2017, contributed to the Sixth National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity in 2018, and participated in various conservation projects. She holds a B.S. in Natural Renewable Resources Science from Universidad de Chile.
In her personal life, Javiera is a mother who enjoys nature and wildlife observation. Through her work at Audubon, she developed a deep appreciation for birds and became captivated by their migration stories and the connections they create across the Americas.
