Dozens of Audubon sites nationwide will host TogetherGreen Volunteer Days in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day providing thousands of Americans with opportunities to take local conservation action. Volunteer Days are a centerpiece of the TogetherGreen (www.togethergreen.org) conservation alliance between Audubon and Toyota.
This series of Volunteer Days – part of more than 200 taking place annually – will occur in select cities across the country throughout April. Activities include habitat and trail restoration, river and lake clean-ups, invasive species removal, nest-box building, wildlife and plant surveys, and more.
"By connecting communities across America with the power to protect the resources that sustain us all, TogetherGreen Volunteer Days are building an ongoing continuing cycle of positive environmental impact," said Audubon President Frank Gill. "TogetherGreen volunteer offerings engage people of all ages, from every community and from all walks of life in forming a powerful and diverse constituency for conservation."

TogetherGreen Volunteer Days are designed to connect people with opportunities to make a conservation difference in their local communities. In only 18 months, nearly 14,000 volunteers have participated in volunteer events nationwide, contributing more than 66,000 hours to conservation projects. By building stronger alliances with other national and local organizations, Audubon hopes to attract new and diverse volunteers to help address pressing environmental problems and opportunities.
In addition, hundreds of Toyota employees and their families from across the country have participated in TogetherGreen volunteer events. Many more are expected to join continuing efforts throughout this five-year initiative.
"These events have been a wonderful opportunity for our employees to make a difference for the environment," said Pat Pineda, group vice president of Toyota Motor North America. "Our alliance with Audubon provides our employees, as well as so many others across the country, with the tools and information to bring conservation into their daily lives."
