About the Bird: Pesticides nearly pushed this bird of prey to extinction in the 1970s, but the Osprey has made a strong comeback and can now frequently be seen nesting on platforms near lakes and rivers. As temperatures rise it should continue to do well, even expanding its range in the Southeastern United States and Canada, although areas along the East Coast and Great Lakes will become less hospitable. Increased spring heat waves and human development could also hamper its survival.
About the Artist: Soten is a visual artist and graffiti writer from Copenhagen, Denmark, who in the past 15 years has grown from a young, local writer to an established international artist. His works are known for trademark letterforms, funky color combinations, and the use of classic illustration elements. It was the Hog Island nest cam that drew him to paint an Osprey: “I thought it was pretty cool.”
