About the Bird: These bright wood warblers are often found in the leafy understory of eastern forests, where they flash their white outer tail feathers from time to time. But climate change may dry out moist habitats along the Gulf Coast where Hooded Warblers breed. The bird’s outlook is worse where it overwinters: Audubon's models predict it will lose 74 percent of its current range in Mexico—unless warming is kept to 1.5 degrees, which will reduce the potential loss to only 15 percent.
About the Artist: Conceptual artist Gera Lozano, known as Geraluz, uses photo, video performance, books, and public art in her practice of conscious work, intentionally beautifying and bringing to light both sacred patterns and the patterns woven into the social fabric. As a street artist, she is passionate about the beautification of public spaces, community empowerment, and art as a healing tool. “Birds are present as main visual elements in many of my artworks,” she says. “They represent and celebrate the natural fauna and flora of the local area where the mural lives. I love drawing and painting birds because they invoke freedom, focus, and having a higher perspective.”
