Surviving winter poses a challenge for cold-blooded creatures. Some amphibians, however, have adapted a unique hibernation strategy: freezing. At Ottawa University, biochemist Kenneth Storey and his lab are attempting to unlock some of the mysteries of freeze-tolerant frogs and insects, among other organisms. One of Storey’s goals is to learn how cryo-hearty amphibians could inform the way organs are transported for humans in need of transplants. Check out this video produced by Emily Vida-Marie Driscoll.
