John Mahoney leads design, development, and the overall strategy of Audubon’s digital products, including Audubon.org and the Audubon Bird Guide app. Since joining Audubon in 2013, John has overseen a complete transformation of our web and mobile properties. He has collaborated closely with the Audubon Science team to launch special data visualization tools, such as Survival By Degrees, that bring our critical climate science to life, and steered our overall digital product vision to serve new audiences and conservation priorities.
Prior to joining Audubon, John was head of design and product at The Wirecutter, a product recommendation site since acquired by the New York Times. Earlier in his career, he led the digital teams of four Bonnier Publications magazine titles (Popular Science, American Photo, Popular Photography, and Sound & Vision), directing redesign efforts to help those titles evolve fully into the modern digital age. Prior to his work in digital products, John was an editor and writer for Gizmodo, Popular Science, and other outlets.
