Sam Wojcicki

Sam Wojcicki is the Senior Director of Climate Policy for the National Audubon Society. In his role, Sam guides Audubon’s engagement with coalitions, legislation, and rulemakings related to the climate crisis, clean energy transition, environmental justice, energy permitting, and related issues. 

Prior to his role at Audubon, Sam spent 5 years working at the U.S. House of Representatives, where he most recently served as Legislative Director for U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger (D-VA). During his time working on Capitol Hill, Sam worked directly on issues related to climate, energy, environment, transportation, and agriculture policy, including the introduction and passage of the Growing Climate Solutions Act, REAP Improvement Act, Promoting Grid Storage Act, and Clean Industrial Technology Act. In his role, Sam helped draft and introduce legislation to bolster climate smart agriculture and on-farm renewable energy production which became the blueprint for amendments made to the Conservation Title of the Farm Bill as a part of the Inflation Reduction Act. As Senior Legislative Assistant for U.S. Representative Sean Casten (D-IL), Sam worked directly with staff from the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis on their inaugural staff report. Sam also oversaw the drafting of the Principles for U.S. Climate Policy released by the New Democratic Coalition’s Climate Change Task Force. Additionally, Sam served as a legislative fellow in the Office of Congressman Paul Tonko (D-NY). 

Before this, Sam worked as a James C. Gaither Junior Fellow and then Consultant for the Energy & Climate Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington D.C. In this role, Sam developed new functions for Phase 2 of the Oil Climate Index, an interactive webtool that models the per-barrel emissions from various oil and natural gas fields globally. 

Sam holds a Master of Public Affairs from the LBJ School at the University of Texas at Austin as well as a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
